Lateral Story - Eric White
In 2014, Eric was considering alternatives, as his current firm was undergoing changes. Eric represented banks and providers of capital investing in private companies, and while many other firms represented these same kinds of entities, Eric was looking specifically for a firm that had a strong transactional business practice where he could focus on middle-market clients. “I wanted to join a firm with a national platform, extensive national resources and a collaborative culture.” Dykema was a perfect fit.
A True National Firm
What excited Eric about Dykema was the strong transactions practice, which aligned well with his clients’ needs. Eric interviewed with firm leadership in Dallas, Chicago, and Detroit, and found the practice acted collaboratively during the interview process, as he gathered input from those who would become colleagues across the firm.
“I really liked the people I met and got to know them through the interview process. Dykema’s firm culture included seeking input from many different people, and their approach was intriguing and refreshing.”
Being based in Dallas, with the opportunity to help build Dykema’s already strong and thriving transactions practice, Eric felt that his future colleagues were willing to share ideas and help him get a strong start.
Hit the Ground Running
Eric’s first few months at Dykema were very busy. In his first 120 days, he worked with teams in other offices, pitching financial institutions and other new prospects within a broad geographic scope. “I was impressed that Dykema had enough confidence in me to have me be part of the team from the beginning.”
And while he admits that he anticipated a little bit more of a ramp-up time, he got into the flow right away, working on deals with Chicago and Dallas colleagues.
“One of the deals I worked on when I first started was a reorganization for a client that required a few all-nighters. It was 2:30 in the morning when we were finalizing documentation packages and I sat back and said, 'Wow, I didn't anticipate this occurring so soon!"
A Strong, Capable Team at Every Level
Since Eric joined Dykema, his practice has thrived. He attributes this to many factors, including strong decision-making by firm leadership, vast national resources and a desire for everyone across the firm to work as a team. “The staff that I deal with are all very happy to help. It’s a refreshing change— from the receptionist at the front desk to my new teammates, all the way to the most senior partners, everybody is eager to help. Our goals are completely aligned.”
