Activists and an Election Year – What Could Go Wrong?

Events

4.02.24 — 4.02.24 1:00 PM — 1:30 PM

Workplaces are typically microcosms of the broader community, so it should come as no surprise that workplaces, like the country, are becoming increasingly more polarized and that employees are more aggressively seeking to communicate their views regarding broader societal goals and beliefs, whether or not such issues directly impact the workplace. This, combined with the current political environment and upcoming elections, requires that human resources professionals keep abreast not only of current and developing issues impacting the workplace, but also appropriate strategies for promoting constructive communication and mediating employee disputes. In this seminar, we will discuss the continuing development of legal issues through administrative agency action and court decisions, as well as potential “landmines” for employer liability and suggestions for promoting a productive and respectful workplace. Topics to be discussed include evolving positions of the EEOC, NLRB and DOL, recent court decisions including decisions that may impact how you advertise open positions, implement the FMLA and make ADA accommodations, as well as political candidate platforms on issues ranging from protection for pregnant applicants and employees to general “hostile environment” claims. We hope that you will join us for this fast-paced discussion of how to plan for current and anticipated future events.

Please bring your questions to this workshop to discuss or submit them in advance. Live Q&A during the presentation is encouraged.
