Amy M. Christen, a member in Dykema’s Employee Benefits practice, and Kathrin E. Kudner, a member in Dykema’s Health Care practice, will share their insights on the implications of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) for both individuals and employers, in a breakfast discussion with the Dykema Executive Roundtable in Dykema’s Chicago office on Friday, May 31, 2013.

In this discussion—themed “Navigating the Exchanges and Minimizing the Employer Pay Mandate in a Post-PPACA World”—Christen and Kudner  will provide practical guidance about how the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will impact individuals and employers when purchasing health care benefits through a public exchange. The two will also examine the potential liability for those employers with 50 or more full-time employees (or full-time equivalents) that, starting in 2014, fail to offer affordable health care benefits to substantially all full-time employees.

The discussion will address such important and topical issues as:

  • Cost penalties of failing to comply
  • Administrative burdens companies will face in assessing how many full-time employees they employ
  • Challenges employees will encounter as they seek to procure subsidized insurance via the new health care exchanges, including the Illinois exchanges
  • Other factors affiliated with the mandate that can have profound cost penalty consequences

The roundtable will start at 8:00am—with breakfast served from 7:30am—and will be held in Dykema’s Chicago Office (located at 10 South Wacker Drive, Suite 2300, Chicago, Illinois).
