Dykema is proud to announce that The Burton Awards selected Ann Fillingham as a winner of the "2024 Law360 Distinguished Legal Writing Awards" in the Law Firms category. Fillingham won for her work co-authoring The Urban Lawyer article, "Municipal Market Evolution Reflecting the Constitutional Underpinnings of the Law of Public Finance," along with Sandy MacLennan (Squire Patton Boggs), Jodie Smith (Maynard Nexsen), and Perry Israel (Law Offices of Perry Israel). The article contains an extensive analysis of the legal evolution of the tax-exempt bond market.

According to The Burton Awards, this designation honors law firm partners and associates for clear, concise, and comprehensive legal writing. The winners were chosen from nominations submitted by the nation’s 1,000 largest law firms. In total, only 20 articles were honored.

William Burton, Founder and Chair of the awards program, said “The recipients are truly exemplary, skillful, and effective writers. The highest standard of excellence in legal writing.”

In addition to the work done by Fillingham and her co-authors, additional research and writing contributors came from Banu Colak, senior counsel at Dykema; and Davis Crocker, a law clerk at Dykema.

The Academic Board, which reviewed articles published within the past year, was led by Virginia Wise, Chair, formerly of Harvard Law School; Kristen K. Tiscione, Georgetown Law Center; Lindsay Sturges Saffouri, UC Berkeley School of Law; William C. Burton, Founder and Chair of the event; and William Ryan, former member of the Department of Homeland Security and Chair of the White House Plain Language Committee.
