Banu Colak Elected to Michigan Women in Finance Board of Directors

Banu Colak was elected to the Michigan Women in Finance Board of Directors for a six-year term, which commenced July 1, 2023. Colak was elected by the organization’s Board of Directors.

Founded in 2002, Michigan Women in Finance is a nonprofit, educational, and professional networking organization for Michigan women in the finance industry. The voluntary Board of Directors is made up of women of diverse backgrounds in various public finance professions. Directors are expected to commit time to Board activities, including participation in one or more Board meetings each month, serving on several Board committees, and participating actively in the annual Michigan Women in Finance Conference and the networking event.

Colak serves as a tax counsel in the firm’s public finance group. She has represented the Treasury, Michigan Finance Authority, Michigan Strategic Fund, and State Building Authority in various taxable and tax-exempt issues. Her representation included State Aid Note, Local Government Loan Program, School Loan Revolving Fund, Higher Education Facilities projects, Tax Anticipation Notes, and commercial paper notes.

Colak received a L.L.M and J.D. from Thomas M. Cooley Law School and a B.S. from Middle East Technical University.
