The Daily Journal Names James Azadian a “Top 100 Lawyer”

Dykema, a leading national law firm, announced today that James Azadian was selected to the Daily Journal’s “Top 100 Lawyers” list for 2024. Azadian has been profiled in a special feature of the publication.

As the leader of Dykema’s nationwide Appellate and Critical Motions Practice and Head of West Coast Appeals, Azadian has helped transform the way clients view the role of appellate counsel. He has served as counsel in more than 270 appeals and writ proceedings covering a wide variety of industries and subjects throughout the country, presenting oral arguments in over 100 cases. 

Beyond the courtroom, Azadian also takes great pride in and makes time for providing mentorship and guidance for the next generation of appellate attorneys. He has served as an adjunct professor, teaching courses in Appellate Advocacy at Pepperdine University School of Law, Law and Economics at UCLA, the Supreme Court Practicum at Northwestern University School of Law, and Legal Ethics at USC.

A former Ninth Circuit law clerk, Azadian was appointed by the Chief Judge of the Ninth Circuit to serve on the Ninth Circuit Advisory Board, a group composed of the 12 most prominent appellate practitioners in the circuit. Before assuming that role, he completed his three-year tenure as Chair of the Ninth Circuit’s Appellate Lawyer Representatives, served as editor-in-chief of the Ninth Circuit’s Practice Guide, and completed three terms as a member of the Ninth Circuit’s Rules Advisory Committee. Azadian also serves on the ABA’s Amicus Committee, as the web editor-in-chief for the ABA’s Appellate Practice Committee, and is on Law360’s Appellate Editorial Advisory Board.

Azadian has received many other accolades. He has been named to The American Lawyer’s inaugural list of “West Trailblazers,” LABJ’s “Thriving In Their 40’s” list, LABJ’s “Leaders Of Influence,” and LABJ’s “Top 100 Lawyer.” Azadian was awarded the Chief Justice John Marshall Medal by the Supreme Court Historical Society for his excellence in appellate advocacy, commitment to pro bono representation, and the advancement of civic learning among youth. He is also nationally recognized as one of The Best Lawyers in America®

Azadian earned his J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law and his B.A. from UCLA.
