Dykema Deepens Insurance Litigation Bench in Texas With the Addition of Attorneys Matthew Pepping, Katie Oldham, and Peter Pope

Dykema, a leading national law firm, today announced the addition of three attorneys in the firm’s Texas offices, each in the firm’s Insurance Industry Group. Matthew Pepping will reside in the firm’s San Antonio office, Katie Oldham will join Dykema in Austin, and Peter Pope will reside in the firm’s Houston office. All three attorneys are coming from Chasnoff|Stribling.

Matthew E. Pepping – Member, San Antonio

Pepping focuses his practice on complex civil litigation matters, with an emphasis on insurance coverage, business disputes, and professional liability. He has extensive experience representing domestic and foreign insurers in complex coverage disputes arising out of directors and officers, management liability, professional liability, pollution liability, cyber risks, commercial general liability, and excess insurance coverage. Pepping frequently provides coverage advice to insurers across a wide range of policies and also advises insurers in connection with claims against their insureds. He also has experience advising clients in drafting policy language.

Pepping has wide-ranging experience representing individuals and businesses in a variety of disputes, including partnership disputes, contract disputes, tortious interference, construction defect lawsuits, and disputes concerning allegations of misrepresentations and omissions. In addition, he represents clients in the financial services industry with respect to an assortment of claims made against their employees or agents and has experience representing reinsurers in arbitrations.

Pepping earned a J.D., cum laude, from Notre Dame Law School, and a B.A. in Political Science and Business Administration, magna cum laude, from Trinity University.

Katie A. Oldham – Senior Counsel, Austin

Oldham’s practice focuses on complex civil litigation matters, with an emphasis on insurance coverage, business disputes, and claims arising out of property insurance policies. She represents both domestic and foreign insurers in matters arising out of a broad spectrum of insurance policies, including commercial general liability, excess liability, pollution liability, property insurance policies, D&O policies, and property and builders risk policies. Oldham also frequently provides coverage advice and coverage analyses to insurers across a wide range of policies.

Additionally, she has extensive experience defending insurers in coverage litigation relating to claims under commercial property policies, including property damage and business interruption claims and insurance coverage disputes related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Oldham’s litigation experience also extends to general complex commercial litigation, contractual and tort litigation, and large-scale government and internal investigations.

Oldham earned a J.D., cum laude, and a B.A. in Government and English, magna cum laude, from the University of Texas.

Peter B. Pope – Senior Counsel, Houston

Pope’s practice focuses on representing clients in civil litigation matters, with an emphasis on representing domestic and foreign insurers in complex commercial disputes, coverage litigation, excess insurance coverage, directors and officers coverage, and professional liability defense. He has extensive experience representing insurers in both coverage disputes and first- and third-party litigation related to claims arising out of commercial general liability, property and builders risk policies. Pope is also experienced in advising insurers regarding litigation strategies related to emerging legislation and its impact on state and federal jurisdiction.

Additionally, he has a wide range of experience representing both individuals and businesses in a variety of disputes as both plaintiff and defendant, including breach of contract, construction defect, personal injury, and premises liability litigation. Pope also has experience representing individuals in qui tam whistleblower litigation, acting as liaison between clients and the United States Department of Justice.

Pope earned a J.D. and B.B.A. from Baylor University.
