“Hunting and Gathering for the Trademark Audit”

Eric T. Fingerhut and Shannon M. McKeon, Washington, D.C.-based attorneys in Dykema’s Intellectual Property practice group, co-authored the article “Hunting and Gathering for the Trademark Audit” which appeared in Intellectual Property Magazine.

In an effort to suspend a logjam of dormant trademarks, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office launched a program of random audits which imposes more stringent commercial usage requirements on mark owners. McKeown and Fingerhut diligently sort out the requirements of the 2017 Trademark Audit mandate, giving the background of the legislation, and providing step-by-step recommendations for the international reader.
