A recent Dykema Alert titled, “City of Los Angeles New Paid Sick Leave and Minimum Wage Ordinance Effective July 1, 2016,” authored by Laura P. Worsinger, Los Angeles-based Senior Counsel in Dykema’s Labor & Employment practice, was republished in Law360.
In the Alert, Worsinger clarifies the provisions of L.A.’s new labor law granting 48 hours of annual paid sick leave, and compares them to California State requirements. She notes that employees can request the leave for any family member, warns employers to be cautious about requiring documentation for sick leave, and concludes that setting up the new procedures will be challenging, given the ordinance’s complexities and the overlap with state law.
The Alert, which also explains LA’s new minimum wage increase, can be read here.
