Melanie Chico Discusses Illinois as a Venue for Data Privacy Trials in Axios

Melanie Chico, co-leader of Dykema's Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) practice team, was quoted in the Axios article, "Why TikTok wants its new data privacy trial held in Illinois." In the article, Chico weighs in on a data privacy case involving TikTok and accusations of accessing user data through third-party websites on the app's browser, discussing why the plaintiffs and the defense have different preferred venues.

 

She goes on to point out that, how this lawsuit plays out in court is going to have a significant impact on how the country looks at privacy issues. "If the judge rules that this is outside of the previous settlement, people are going to file like crazy against the other social media companies, too."
