Richard Lieberman Speaks on Opportunity Zone Perks in Bloomberg Tax

Richard L. Lieberman, Senior Counsel in Dykema’s Chicago office and member of the firm’s Tax Practice Group, was quoted in the Bloomberg Tax article, “Tax Virus Briefing: Companies, Banks Brace for Far-Away Recovery.”

In speaking on the extra opportunity zone rules and the third coronavirus response law that could allow companies investing in opportunity zones to split their gains and losses and receive tax breaks, Lieberman comments that although it is a creative idea, given the economic downturn due to the COVID-19 pandemic, companies are unlikely to be in a cash position to make a long-term investment and take advantage of the benefit.
