Texas Comptroller Announces Tax Amnesty for Businesses

6.12.12

The Texas Comptroller has announced that, beginning today, June 12, 2012, a limited tax amnesty period is available for prior non-filers. This amnesty program, which ends August 17, 2012, was designed to allow business taxpayers to obtain a "fresh start" and become compliant without paying penalty and interest. Importantly, the tax amnesty covers taxes that were originally due before April 1, 2012, and, unlike many amnesty programs, allows for an abatement of both penalty and interest. Taxpayers that are under audit generally are ineligible for the amnesty. The Comptroller's release is available here.

Dykema's Texas attorneys and Taxation Group members are available to assist taxpayers in a broad array of tax matters, including navigating the complexities associated with the tax amnesty program that is now available in Texas.
