Title IX Compliance Obstacles and Best Practices in the Era of the #MeToo Movement

Speaking Engagements

7.31.18

Please join Dykema for a discussion regarding the challenges and legal obligations faced by educational institutions under Title IX and related laws. Title IX compliance is required under a spotlight in which the #MeToo Movement has deeply raised awareness and expectations, while educational institutions face increased threats of litigation and confusing governmental guidance. Our discussion will examine best practices and compliance obstacles in this complicated landscape.

During this discussion, we will address:

  • How Title IX evolved beyond gender equity in sports and expanded under the Obama Administration
  • How to comply with the Interim Guidance by the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights and what to expect from the new regulations
  • Practical examples, notable cases and the impact of the #MeToo movement
  • How does Title IX operate vis-à-vis the criminal process in sexual misconduct cases
  • Interaction with related federal laws such as Title VII and VAWA
