Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season: Response and Recovery to Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria
Speaking Engagements
10.26.17
The hurricanes encountered thus far in 2017 in the U.S. – Harvey, Irma and Maria – will be remembered for their intensity and for the extensive damage they have inflicted. Recovering from the challenges caused by these natural disasters requires careful and ongoing attention to various legal hurdles including insurance coverage, business interruption, and property loss claims, among others.
Dykema attorneys developed extensive expertise in 2005 during Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma that they can bring to bear in helping businesses and lenders deal with recovery from this year’s storms. In this webinar, Thomas B. Alleman and Erin F. Fonté will address challenges companies impacted by these storms may face in the coming months. This program is relevant to lawyers at any governmental entity, financial institution, lender, servicer, insurer or business affected by these storms. Among the topics to be discussed:
- Understanding flood insurance – what is covered?
- Basics of business interruption coverage – when does it apply and what are the basics of the claim process?
- Deciphering policy limits, appraisals and coinsurance
- Who can make a claim – policyholders, loss payees, lender loss payees
- Understanding Texas’ new statutes governing property loss claims
