Alison A. Furtaw

Investigations

Alison has run several internal investigations for the Wayne County Office of Corporation Counsel and various school districts throughout the state of Michigan, as well as private corporations, into matters involving race or sex discrimination complaints.

Government Service

Alison worked as an Assistant Attorney General from 2008-2020, handling a wide array of criminal and regulatory cases. Her notable assignments included running the Child Protection Unit, and being a part of both the Clergy Abuse Taskforce and the Larry Nassar sex abuse investigation team.

Alison’s notable cases while in the Attorney General’s Office include the convictions of a River Rouge city council member for bribery, Mike Skupin (a Survivor cast member) for running a Ponzi scheme called “Pay it Forward”, and several Catholic priests in her work on the clergy abuse task force, as well as the Director of Charter Schools for the County of Muskegon for embezzlement.

In her regulatory work, Alison ran the builder’s docket from 2010-2014, handling a wide array of consumer protection complaints and assisting consumers in recouping their losses from dishonest builders. She also investigated several consumer complaints against charter schools in Michigan for embezzlement or misuse of school funds.

Alison also worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney from 2020-2023.  In the U.S. Attorney’s office, she convicted a high school football coach of soliciting students for child pornography and a Shelby Township doctor of overprescribing six million dollars’ of opioids.

Teaching

Alison teaches a 10 day intense trial advocacy class at Notre Dame Law School biannually and taught trial advocacy at Michigan State University College of Law as an adjunct.
