As Assistant Practice Group Leader for the Commercial Litigation Practice, Jason understands that legal counsel and advocacy must incorporate broader and strategic business considerations to effectively protect clients’ interests.  Jason’s combination of attention to detail and bigger-picture thinking has made him a trusted and dependable partner for insurers that turn to him for clear, thorough analysis and the efficient and favorable resolution of complex insurance coverage disputes.

Personable and professional in equal measure, Jason forges seamless working relationships with his insurer clients, serving more as a natural extension of their in-house teams rather than outside counsel. When advising clients, he eschews esoteric legal lectures in favor of the productive and enlightening give-and-take of conversation, providing the information and guidance clients need to make optimal decisions while sparing them from needless jargon and legalese.

Jason has extensive experience representing domestic and foreign insurers in high-stakes coverage disputes involving various types of coverage. He is particularly well-versed in professional and management liability coverage issues and matters arising under general liability policies. He regularly counsels on matters involving underlying exposures faced by architects and engineers, directors and officers, lawyers, financial institutions, mutual and real estate funds, insurance companies, and other public and private entities.

In addition to providing insurers strategic coverage counseling and serving as monitoring counsel, Jason litigates ensuing disputes in state and federal courts nationwide at both the trial and appellate levels. With a talent for crafting powerful and persuasive arguments and an approach that encourages productive interactions with policyholder counsel, he is adept at resolving coverage disputes at their earliest stages, often before litigation is filed.

Jason matches his dedication to his clients with an equal level of commitment to serving his community. His active pro bono practice includes work for the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center’s Small Business Legal Assistance Program, where he counsels small business owners and prospective entrepreneurs who operate in economically disadvantaged areas or who have limited financial resources. Jason is also a member of Lambda Legal’s Cooperating Attorneys Network, where he serves as a resource for members of the LGBTQ+ community seeking assistance on issues involving sexual orientation and gender identity/expression.

I view my work with insurers as a collaborative partnership—working as a team to achieve optimal resolutions—rather than as a transactional relationship.
