Aaron J. Keel brings over a decade of legislative, political and leadership experience to Dykema’s Lansing Office. Aaron has successfully negotiated key pieces of legislation, testified at numerous House and Senate committee hearings, and has extensive experience in the legislative process, including bill drafting, review and analysis, moving legislation through the process and implementation.

Aaron joined Dykema’s Government Policy Advisor Group in 2023. Prior to joining the Dykema team, Aaron served as the Director for the Office of Legislative Affairs for the Michigan Department of Treasury and in leadership roles within Michigan’s House Democratic Caucus.

At Treasury, Aaron led a team of Legislative Liaisons advocating for the Department’s legislative priorities on behalf of Governor Whitmer’s administration. Aaron served as a member of Treasurer Rachael Eubanks’ senior policy staff and was responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing the Department’s short- and long-term legislative priorities and goals that spanned the areas of state and local government services and financing, local property taxes, higher education, economic development, and long-term budget stability.

Aaron was a regular attendee at the House Tax Policy and Senate Finance Committees, as well as numerous other committees, where he testified on the Department’s position on a wide variety of legislation. Once a bill became law, Aaron worked closely with Department staff and key stakeholders on successful implementation.

Prior to joining Treasury, Aaron served as the Deputy Chief of Staff to House Democratic Leaders Sam Singh and Chris Greig. In these roles, Aaron was responsible for managing the legislative strategy for the House Democratic Caucus. Aaron worked closely with caucus members on their agendas and served as the key point of contact for the caucus with the Governor’s office, Speaker’s office, and stakeholders on legislation.

Aaron also came to Dykema with direct lobby experience, having previously worked as the Assistant Director of Government Relations for the Michigan Association of School Boards. In this role, Aaron successfully lobbied to stop, pass, or amend numerous pieces of legislation for the betterment of over 4,000 elected school board members he represented. Aaron was recognized as a 2017 Rising Leader award recipient by the Michigan Society of Association Executives for his successful work on behalf of MASB.

Aaron has earned a reputation as someone who excels at navigating the legislative and political process and producing results. With experience working in leadership roles in the Legislature and in the Administration, he is a trusted and respected voice at the Capitol.
