Alexander J. Atwood

Associate

Alexander Atwood is an associate in Dykema's Dallas office. His practice is focused on business formation and structuring, the negotiation of commercial contracts, venture capital transactions, and M&A.

Alexander assists companies from formation to funding and beyond. With a strong background representing startups in the venture capital market, Alexander understands the challenges faced by companies large and small. Time is a precious commodity, and he values none more highly than that of his clients.

At Dykema, Alexander works closely with members of the healthcare space on strategic transactions and negotiations including acquisitions, mergers, and routine corporate governance matters such as establishing management service models or equity incentive options for key employees - in each case, keeping a clear eye on his client's unique challenges and how best to navigate a complicated regulatory environment. Alexander takes pride in the personal relationships that he builds with his clients, knowing that trusted counsel is one of the most valuable assets a business can have.

During law school at SMU, Alexander clerked with an appellate judge and worked with firms specializing in products and premises liability, consumer law, and business litigation before focusing on transactional practice, as well as served on several pro bono clinics providing legal services to clients in need. Having built, directed, and coached a tennis program for under-privileged youths, Alexander was no stranger to giving back to his community even before his legal career. This broad range of experiences - combined with his undergraduate background in real estate and commercial finance, marketing & sales, and foreign currency exchange - gives Alexander the experience and flexibility needed to tackle even the most complex business transactions from a perspective that includes both legal and practical concerns.
